Summaries of Chapters 4-6


Chapter 4-

 
Chapter four begins with Robert waking on beach. The number devil continues to teach Robert how to divide. In this chapter Robert forgets his calculator, so the number devil lets hi use one that is  a couch. The number devil also teaches Robert about repeating decimals. 

Chapter 5-

Chapter five begins with Robert wandering through a dessert. He is only wearing swim trunks. Robert stumbles upon the number devil in a palm tree. After Robert gets something to drink, the number devil tells him to throw a bunch of coconuts down, and they all land in different size triangles. The number devil teaches Robert triangular numbers in this chapter. 

He also teaches Robert how to do the quandrangle numbers. Quandrangle numbers are numbers that have to do with squares. The chapter ends with Robert diving in to the pool of numbers that was there. 

Chapter 6-

Chapter six begins with Robert and the number devil in a potato field. The number devil teaches Robert about Number Heaven where he is from. He also tells him about one of the bosses named Bonacci, a French man that was one of the first to learn how the number zero works. 

In this chapter he teaches Robert about the Bonacci numbers and how they  work. He did this by using rabbits and a rabbit clock. Each of the numbers on the clock represents one month. At the strike of every month there was at least two new bunnies. The number devil also showed Robert that Bonacci numbers can go back too by reversing the rabbit clock. The chapter ends with the number devil going back to Number Heaven.

Summaries of Chapters 1-3

Chapter 1- Chapter one talks about how Robert, the main character, has very strange dreams. It also talks about how the dreams are the same every night. One of the reoccurring dreams Robert has is on about how he gets a racing bike. Another one is how he is eaten by a fish. All of a sudden he has different dream. This dream had the number devil and a meadow with grass that grew to the sky. The number devil is a little old man. The number devil starts to teach Robert about mathematics. Summaries of Chapter 10-12

Chapter 10- Chapter ten begins with Robert in a private showing with the number devil. In this chapter the number devil gives Robert a computer. Then he tells Robert to divide the Bonacci numbers by their neighbors. When he did that he got decimals. the umber devil told him that ordinary numbers do the same thing.  The number devil teaches Robert about a unit of measurement called quang. He uses a pentagon with a star inside it to teach Robert about quang. The number devil also teaches Robert that if you count the dots, lines, and spaces in a star you will get the answer one by adding the first two numbers and subtracting the sum of the first two by the last number. The Chapter ends with the number devil disappearing.   Chapter 11-  The chapter begins with Robert being chases by a bunch of his math teacher. Summaries of Chapters 7-9

C hapter 7- The chapter begins with Roberts mother talking to herself with Robert in the room. His mother sends him outside but he returns for dinner and goes to bed. The number devil takes Robert to a little white house shaped like a cube with no furniture. All it had in it was plastic looking electronic cubes. The number devil and Robert build a large triangle. After it is built they number the triangles with how many cubes on top of each one.  The number devil clapped his hands after they were done, and one row would light up. Robert would have to add up the numbers on the cubes of each row. The next time the number devil clapped the triangle numbers lit up. Then the numbers divisible by five, and them Bonacci numbers.
